"So how was your guy's day?" I asked my digital companions as I sat down.
"The hill was mostly quiet," yawned Kypmon after a moment. "So we had a tasty snack and backed in the sun a bit."
"How is that different from what you two usually do?"
Zeke huffed in annoyance, an endearing expression on the small wyvern bat-dragon in training type. "I wasn't done!" he keened before continuing. "The lowlands though... the wetlands could've been better," he said with a frown.
"This wouldn't happen to have anything to do with why it looks like you've just finished drying off, would it Rön?" I turned my attention to the minute, tawny colored Renamon standing next to me.
"Yes," she replied tersely with a somewhat blank, shallow smile. Her eyebrows shifted, furrowing slightly. Clearly, it wasn't a fond recollection.
I patted the empty space next to me on the couch. Rön accepted my invitation to continue and sit down, letting out a small groan of annoyance as she did so.
"Keromon," she griped. "A whole pondful of upset keromon making a mess and causing a scene with the locals."
"I take it they were not very cooperative?"
"Unfortunately no," she pouted, leaning into me as Zeke covered his face in embarrassment. "Assholes knocked me out of a tree and into one of the small, swampy ponds in the marsh," she said, snarling her sharp canines.
I tentatively put my head on the canine digimon's head and began to pet gently upon lack of resistance. Rather, she leaned into the motion as affectionate critters are wont to do.
"They gave us a bit of trouble, but we managed to kick their hindquarters well enough. They stopped laughing then," she said with a grin. "Then we tagged them and sent most of them on their way back to the digital world - seems like they had popped up in a Chelydramons territory and got in a fight."
"Ouch," I winced.
"He wasn't very happy being woken up, and we had to treat some of them. Others needed to have their data fragments zapped back to HQ in Boston for re-compilation into digi-eggs."
"Busy day, yeah?"
"Yeah," the Renamon variant sighed. By now she was draped across my lap in comfort and resignation.
Sometimes they needed me to help them decompress as much as I usually needed them to help me do the same. It was warmth, and the bonds of partnership.
A slice of life bit between me and my digimon partners I came up with
